The Oldest City in the County
Spray Foam Insulation in Tarpon Springs covers a wider range of house ages than almost anywhere in Pinellas. The city was incorporated on February 12, 1887, the first incorporated city in what is now Pinellas County, after Hamilton Disston ordered a town plan in 1882. The Safford House dates to 1883, and the Tarpon Springs Historic District and Greektown Historic District are both on the National Register. Newer subdivisions toward the east and along the Anclote River date from the 1970s on.
Older homes near the bayous
Wikipedia describes a series of bayous draining into the Gulf, with Spring Bayou at the heart of the old town. Historic frame houses there often sit on piers with open space below, board walls with little or no insulation, and attics that have been patched over many decades. For these, the first step is a careful look: wiring, framing condition, any signs of termites or past leaks. Floors over open air can benefit from closed-cell foam underneath, and walls can sometimes be dense-packed. In a historic district, exterior changes may need review, so we work from the inside wherever we can.
Newer subdivisions
Away from the historic core, most houses are block or frame on slab with attics overhead, the same attic-first approach as elsewhere in North Pinellas. Sealing the ceiling and either adding depth or foaming the roof deck is the usual plan.
Weather here
The city's climate section on Wikipedia notes summer highs typically around 89F to 91F, winter lows around 50F to 54F, about 50 inches of rain a year, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms that sometimes bring hail, tornadoes or waterspouts. That is a lot of wind-driven rain, and roofs that leak once tend to leak again. We always look for water stains before insulating.
Who lives here
The 2020 census counted 12,887 housing units in Tarpon Springs, 13.1% vacant. Census QuickFacts lists 81.0% owner occupancy, a median owner-occupied value of $340,700 and 30.0% of residents 65 or older for 2020-2024. Many owners have been here for years and are finally tackling a hot attic or drafty older house.
Termites and older framing
Older frame homes in humid coastal towns often show termite damage somewhere. Florida's residential code limits foam plastic near the soil for exactly that reason: section R318.8 restricts foam on the exterior face of, or under, foundation walls in very heavy termite areas, and requires at least 6 inches between above-grade foam and exposed earth. Under raised floors we keep foam clear of the ground and leave framing visible where inspection access matters.
Costs for older and newer homes
An older Tarpon Springs house may need several smaller jobs, such as the attic, a raised floor and perhaps dense-packed walls, while a newer home is usually an attic-only job. HomeGuide lists blown-in insulation at $1.00 to $2.80 per square foot and dense-pack cellulose at $1.60 to $4.20, and closed-cell spray foam at $3.00 to $5.00 per square foot. We price each area separately so you can choose the order, and the written estimate is the price.

Tarpon Springs Questions
Can you insulate a historic home without changing its exterior?
Usually, yes. Attic, floor and many wall jobs can be done from inside or below. If your home is in a historic district and exterior work is involved, check with the city first.
My house sits on piers. Does the floor need insulation?
A floor over open air can let in heat and humid air. Closed-cell foam on the underside is a common choice because it handles moisture. We check for termite and moisture damage first.
Do you work in newer Tarpon Springs subdivisions too?
Yes. Most of our work there is attic sealing, blown-in and roof deck foam, the same as in Palm Harbor or East Lake.
Will foam under my raised floor hide termite damage?
It can cover the underside of the floor framing, so we check for damage first and keep foam away from the soil as Florida code requires. Your pest control company can advise on inspection access.
