A Planned Town That Grew Late
Spray Foam Insulation in Oldsmar is mostly about younger homes on low ground by the bay. The town was established in 1916, when automobile maker Ransom E. Olds bought 37,541 acres north of Tampa Bay for a planned community. It stayed small for decades: 878 people in 1960 and 2,608 in 1980. Then it jumped to 8,361 in 1990 and 14,898 in 2020. Most of Oldsmar's houses are therefore from the late 1980s onward.
Storm history on the bay
Oldsmar knows what Tampa Bay water can do. Wikipedia records that the 1921 hurricane devastated the young town, uprooting large trees and pushing floodwater 14 feet above normal; some surviving homes were later moved by barge to St. Petersburg. Today the city has about 10 miles of waterfront on Old Tampa Bay and sits on a plateau no higher than about 20 feet. Water intrusion after storms is something we always check for before insulating.
Newer homes, familiar problems
Homes from the 1980s through the 2000s usually have better starting insulation than older Pinellas houses, but the same weak spots: recessed lights, attic hatches, ducts in the attic, and two-story layouts with hot upstairs rooms. Many also have a garage with a bonus room or living space above it, where the floor over the garage is often poorly insulated. Closed-cell or open-cell foam from below can fix that.
A younger, owner-occupied city
Oldsmar's median age was 41.7 in the 2020 census, younger than most of Pinellas, and only 5.0% of its 6,283 housing units were vacant. QuickFacts lists 76.9% owner occupancy and a median owner-occupied value of $380,300 for 2020-2024. Families here often want a comfortable house more than the lowest possible cost, and roof deck foam is a common request when ducts sit in the attic.
Two options, priced side by side
If the ducts are in the attic and upstairs rooms struggle, we price foam under the roof deck. If not, sealing and blown-in on the attic floor. You see both on the quote when both apply.
Reading the quote
Every Oldsmar quote lists each area separately: what gets sealed, which material goes where, how thick or deep it is, and the R-value it should reach. If you are comparing us with other insulation companies, line up those numbers. Two bids that look far apart on price are often for different depths or different foam types.
Garages, lanais and bonus spaces
Beyond the main attic, Oldsmar homes often have spaces that never got much attention: a garage ceiling under a bonus room, a screened lanai that was enclosed, or a detached workshop. These areas are usually small, so foam is often practical even on a modest budget. HomeGuide notes that many spray foam jobs carry a minimum of about $1,000 to $2,000, so pairing a small foam area with the main attic work on the same visit can be more economical than doing it alone.

Oldsmar Questions
Can you insulate the floor of a room over my garage?
Yes. If the garage ceiling is drywall, we can usually work from below by opening it or through access points, and foam both insulates and seals the floor. We look at access first.
My newer Oldsmar home still has a hot upstairs. Is insulation the problem?
Often it is a mix of air leaks, thin insulation over some rooms and ducts in a hot attic. We check all three before recommending anything.
Should I worry about flooding before insulating?
If the house has taken on water before, we check lower walls and attic for damage. Insulation is not flood protection, but wet material should not be left in place.
How do I compare insulation quotes?
Compare the material, thickness or depth, target R-value and air sealing listed for each area. A cheaper quote with half the depth or no air sealing is not the same job.
Is roof deck foam common in newer Oldsmar homes?
It comes up often where the air handler and ducts are in the attic. If they are not, we usually recommend sealing and adding depth on the attic floor instead.
